Dear reader of signs,
Welcome to the Monday, the 26th of June’s observation from my daily ‘Reading the Signs’ June challenge, an exercise of paying attention with a focus in mind as the day unfolds.
A slow start this day, after not a lot of sleep and intense dreams. I had a sense of dissatisfaction for the morning, which I didn’t brush off until I made myself leave the house to run errands.
But as I arose and shook off my slumbering visions, I reached for The Modern Witch Tarot by Lisa Sterle, and pulled the Eight of Cups and the Six of Cups. This deck was kicked off via crowdfunding so I have the limited edition set with a lot of beautiful extras. I ended up getting a second deck and gifting it to a friend of mine.
If you were to recommend a deck for young, novice readers of the Tarot, this would be a terrific deck to introduce them to the cards. Its clear lines, bright colours, and 21st century sensibility update the classic Waite-Rider imagery and make this an easy entry point to the Tarot and its symbology.
This month has seen a predominance of cups, and my time with them has not ended. Here, the eight of cups points to understanding when it is wise to walk away from a situation, even when it has the surface appeal of being a good venture. The six of cups is about nostalgia, family and friends, and perhaps dealing with an issue from the past.
What I noticed immediately was that they were out of order: the eight was before the six, as if a step in a process had been skipped. Since reading the Tarot is simply paying attention to the associations you make with the cards, then I figured this was part of what I had to consider. So the moment of understanding how issues of the past affect me, appears to be cautioning me against the impulse to abandon a situation.
Or my past history indicates why I should review a situation and prepare to forgo it.
I love it when you expect clarity and get uncertainty!
In this case I merely went through my day and held the ideas in my mind lightly as I approached every encounter. I shook off my morning doldrums by tackling writing and planning, and ended up tapping into a reservoir of energy in the afternoon.
By the evening I was engaged in contemplating a new project. Something long-term and would require collaboration, but I outlined the bones of it.
Another plate to spin. There are others that require attention before that.
